About Us

I’m Darius Mathis, a passionate and seasoned videographer and editor with over 15 years of experience in the industry. My journey started in the United States Marine Corps, where I served with honor and dedication, earning an Honorable Discharge. Today, I proudly run Red September Films, LLC, my own video production company based in Grand Rapids, MI.

At Red September Films, I wear many hats. From transporting and setting up equipment to operating cameras, lighting, and audio, I handle it all with a meticulous eye for detail and a love for storytelling. Whether it’s collaborating with corporate teams or working with creative minds from ad agencies, I thrive in creating captivating video content that speaks volumes.

My Journey

Since December 2008, I’ve been working as a Producer, Videographer, and Editor at Red September Films, LLC. My role involves everything from shooting and editing raw footage into engaging videos to coordinating video production crews and equipment for diverse projects. I work with major networks like TLC, MTV, A&E, and many others to bring stories to life on platforms ranging from broadcast to streaming.

I’ve had the pleasure of working on a variety of projects, from corporate live events and reality TV shows to true crime docuseries and competition series. Some of the notable shows I’ve contributed to include 90 Day: The Other Way, Dr. Phil, Project Runway, and Treehouse Masters. My experience extends to live event production, where I assist with everything from setup to live show execution, ensuring smooth and seamless productions.

What I Bring to the Table

I bring a wealth of skills to every project I undertake, including:

– Video Production: From conceptualizing to post-production, I handle it all with a keen eye for detail.
– Camera Operation: I have extensive experience with professional cameras, including Sony, Canon, and Blackmagic.
– Video Editing: Proficient in DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Creative Cloud, I craft compelling narratives through video.
– Lighting: Both on location and in-studio, I ensure every shot is perfectly lit.
– Storytelling: With a background in scriptwriting and copywriting, I help shape stories that resonate with audiences.

In addition to my professional work, I also have a passion for teaching and community involvement. I’ve taught advanced film and video courses as an Adjunct Professor at Grand Valley State University and served as a board member for the West Michigan Film & Video Alliance, advocating for film and video professionals in the region.

Education & Skills

I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications from Grand Valley State University and an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Oakland Community College. My skills encompass videography, video production, camera operation, video editing, on-location and in-studio lighting, color grading, and more.
